Whether or not you’ve watched rugby league or not is irrelevant. He hasn’t played in 10 years and that isn’t why he’s been knighted. My wife has never watched rugby league but she would know him. Considering people on here pay more attention to current affairs than most I’m genuinely surprised the amount of people who haven’t heard of him. Have none of you heard of Rob Burrow or Doddie Wier either?
No to first one, yes, to second one. I do recall seeing News coverage, I suspect I remember the second name, because it is unusual.
The recent running and cycling thing, Wembley to Stadium of Light (Sunderland), I remember her name (Jill Scott), because it was just on news last night, AND it is local to me. Doubt I will remember in a years time.
There are so many of these "Charity Events" (Red Nose Day, Sports Relief, Children in Need, etc etc, and that is before you get to the Illness related ones) they just blur into nothingness, and, I would not make a point of watching them. The only one that registers for me is Great North Run, and that is because Daughter No4 has been taking part for the past 5 or 6 years, and, it causes significant disruption where I live.
