The AI which has destroyed the creative industry? Less so.

Have we got to scale down AI development due to environmental concerns whilst the US multiplies it's efforts? So we basically have to cut back whilst other nations emit even more carbon (and Nos) in a sort of offset policy.

It’s not just the carbon emissions. Water supply and pollution directly affects local areas around data centres.

Yes grandma, I know how to suck an egg. It was I that posted the documentary link about Musk's Data centre (supercomputer) in Memphis (way back) run by 35 gas powered generators and where local are suffering from acute respiratory conditions.

But there are undoubtably benefits of some uses of AI. We need to restricted the frivolous use to generate images, write your Uni dissertation for you etc. and concentrate the resource where it is beneficial e.g. assisting in medicl diagnosis and treatment.

I didn’t realise that I had to confirm reading posts.
I was simply reiterating that data centres which are coming to the UK will have a direct negative impact.

This is the problem. Even I don't argue that it has no uses – it can do quite extraordinary things – but the AI industry is desperately trying to push it as the solution to *everything* and trying to get every sector – business, education, individuals – hooked on it to funnel them into subscription models that will fund their profligacy and trashing of the planet.
