How about you show me that they still have that card 2 years after they finish Uni?

As already pointed out they're not valid anyway so irrelevant.

Regulations that applied to one particular group and not to others, so yes equating national ID cards for everyone to the yellow stars worn by Jews to make them stand out from other Germans is a crass and insensitive comparison. Do you imagine the Over 60's bus pass is also some sort of precursor to an impending age defined genocide? Of course not.

It's a thoughtless and trite comparison and saying 'It's not the Holocaust, but this is how the Holocaust began...' doesn't make it any better.

Do you actually know what information about you will be readable from the proposed card or held in the associated database? Will you be entitled to know or challenge the purpose or veracity of that data?

There’s far more to it than a plastic card. Imagine if mid 20th century fascists had computers rather than a card index and willing clerks.

Get a driving licence then if you're that concerned or a passport?

Get a voter ID card then, they are free from the council and will only have the detail that the council already hold on you.

Apart from making me jump through another hoop in order to vote out the execrable and odious Chris Philp, what problem will be solved?

Fascism and The Holocaust in one thread.

Godwin's Law is still alive and kicking...for some.

No, I don't. Is the intention that the people forced to have the proposed card will only be those in a particular ethnic minority? If not, what information held is irrelevant in relation to comparing it to Jews having to wear yellow fabric stars.

The simile wasn't a general one of 'The government holding information is fascist', it was a specific one of 'this is like the Jews in 1930's Germany'. Totally inappropriate.

You could certainly have a discussion as to whether ID cards are authoritarian and whether recording certain information recording information is overstepping, though they seem to be used by left and right wing governments alike. But let's not demean the discussion by chucking in 'fascist' and 'just like 1930's Germany'.

Haven't you got either a driving licence or passport then, if so you won't be needing to jump through any hoops.
