Just PERHAPS those seeking more social equity globally HAVE realised that we could live with less "stuff",

I don't disagree with you that a less materialistic society might actually be a good thing. A man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions is very definitely not something the modern Conservative party adheres to! If anything the opposite. What's the point of all that wealth in a society that cannot keep its marriages together, routinely doesn't tell the truth or reneges on commitments it has entered into.

On the other hand, I still hear the echo of Mrs Thatcher whenever there is talk of reparations or other global redistribution of wealth: the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Excellent, catchy, meaningless slogan.

Tax is money held in common to provide the services we need or want.

What's the problem with neoliberalism then? Is it that you run out other people's money and money altogether. So you then bail out the banks to print you some more money? Redistribution of wealth lol !
It's pretty desperate harking back to Thatcher and Blair for that matter...times and the country have changed, neither did us any good.

With neoliberalism that supposed 'trickle down' turns into 'siphons up'..

The rich get richer, as money attracts more money, the poor get even more so, because being poor is expensive - in so many ways..

Without progressive taxation, and regulation on our activities to ensure that our tendencies to always want more, we end up with a dehumanised divided society.

The one we have today in fact.

The haves "And I get to keep it all and get more"

And the impoverished, (undeserving in some folks eyes). "have nots".

You say '"don't they all" as if you think they might.

Do you have any factual basis for saying this or is it just a failed attempt at an aphorism?

I thought the construct “don’t they all” was a question? There was even a question mark at the end. Looks like my o level English has let me down.

It is a leading question, implying more than an open one.

We probably did our 'O' level English in the same year.

I did mine a year early, ie, at 15. I got a grade 2, you, obviously, got a grade 1 😊

I thought we had just pass or fail for 'O' levels in 1963. Could be wrong on that, but I am pretty sure I would not have done enough for the top grades and my certificates are somewhere in a box under a pile of rubbish in the loft so my kids will find out when I'm dead and they are cleaning the house out.

I did mine in 1962 when I was 15 (long story, I will not bore you with). We got a “grade” (if I recall correctly, 1-9, 1-6 was a pass, my only “fail” was French for which I got a 7). I only remember my English grade because English teacher didn’t like me, and, expressed surprise that I had passed, especially, with a 2. 😊

I also did mine when I was 15, but in 1963...late summer birthday so youngest in my year.

Seems I misjudged you BL; you really can fit into the NACA mainstream! Asking blatantly leading questions, then when they're shot down come back with:
"I merely asked a simple question!"
