"The scheme would see those who arrive in the UK illegally sent to the east African country, where they could claim asylum."

BBC news website, today.

There are two ways of reading this. Did the BBC intend

The scheme would see those who arrive in the UK illegally, sent to the east African country, where they could claim asylum.

or

The scheme would see those who arrive in the UK, illegally sent to the east African country, where they could claim asylum.

The wonders of the humble comma. 😊

Split infinitive perhaps? Made correct by common usage, like '..to boldly go' rather than 'go boldly..'.

I think the BBC text is correct though. An extra comma would be unnecessary. Odd to be discussing the grammar of such a batsh*t idea though. Like should centaur have a capital letter.

Take a book on punctuation and grammar, misquote it - in fact, misquote the title - then add a vacuous grinning smiley.

I left out all the punctuation for you 'highbrows' to gloat with superiority with the examples of how the meaning of the phrase changes.

Alas :banghead:

And there we are.

50 victims of Islamic extremist violence, including Lee Rigby's wife, sign a letter condemning politicians who vilify Muslims.

Why? Very possibly because they have had to sit down and think about the underlying issues rather than give in to easy bigotry and hatred.

As Mrs Rigby says, the best thing she can do is help isolate the extremists, and that won't happen by blaming the moderate Muslim community.
