This is false information / misinformation. There is a possible mix of transgender women and trans women prisoners at this prison, however they are held in E wing, a separate part of the prison where prisoners are free to mingle with each other, but not other prisoners in other parts of the prison.

What's the difference between transgender women and trans women?

No, E wing houses men with a GRC.
They have access to the same facilities, gym, activities, courses, classes etc as the women prisoners in Down View during the day. These men can mix with female prisoners during this period. They are not confined to E wing all the time. From the wing's policy document:

Bear in mind that E wing was created to house the most dangerous and violent trans identifying male prisoners with a GRC because they were too high risk to be accommodated in the women's estate 24/7.

I'd be interested to know too. The more recent tack is that only men with a GRC are True Trans. Now we have even more subsets.

Suggest you read HMP Downview inspection reports.

Please understand that ''high risk'' does not in itself mean a high risk to others.

I've read the most recent report. It has practically zero things to say about E wing and it's prisoners.

High risk does in fact mean high risk to others. In fact they say specifically that E wing prisoners are dangerous to women. It was set up specifically to house violent and dangerous males with a GRC as a response to a trans identifying male with a GRC, Karen White, sexually assaulting women in the women's jail in which he was housed.

It's literally in the official policy.

That does not preclude risk to themself, or to prison staff. This is not me saying that there is no possibility that trans women can carry high risk factors, any more than I am saying that there are also cisgender women who carry high risk factors. If you had taken the trouble you could have from the same source cited that a high proportion of women held a Downview are cited as high risk. The point being that violent people do no fit in isolated to any one cohort, ie men.

You might also note that all cells are single occupancy, and that the report shows that it is not unusual for prisoners to be locked in their cells for 23 hours per day.

I also ask you to notice that the prison has a rising rate of violence, and in one case a woman took another prisoner hostage with a knife.

Statistically the number of women in prison for violence crime is much lower than men. Being male is in itself a risk factor for violence towards others. We all know this. Pretending women have anything near the tendency towards violence that men have is not born out by statistics. Of course the stats are not helped by men having been recorded under the female crime statistics.

Trying to excuse men in women's prisons by saying women can be violent too just won't wash.

I didn't. Seems you are the one pretending something. Pretending that women's prisons are safe spaces ''is not born out by the stats''.

There latest data I could see for HMP Downview there were 37 women serving sentences of 10 years plus.

So what. No prison is a 100% safe space. Women's prisons are where we put criminal women. Where else would they go?
Men's prisons are where we put criminal men.
