Labour has tabled an urgent question about the sacking of KK, which takes place at 3:30 tomorrow. In the normal run of things, it's up to Truss to have the answers. If she sends a lackey to answer (likely), then she ends up half-toasted. Starmer will then only have to turn her over on the grill on Weds to finish her off.

Starmer just delivered the devastating line about Truss not being in the commons.

“The lady’s not for turning……………….UP!”

Surely she's about to resign ?

Hm, I don't know. She doesn't seem to have the personality to accept responsibility and stand down, the Tories won't find a plausible alternative (no matter how low the bar is) and they don't want an election. Jeremy Hunt can hide behind her, he probably wouldn't accept her resignation letter. She's a figurehead, scapegoat and human shield. She might be stuck around for a while.

The rumour on twitter is that they want a Sunak / Mordaunt / Hunt ticket and are moving to replace Truss if she doesn't walk. They don't need a leadership ballot if the 1922 committee is in agreement and could move the new PM in within a week of deciding. I might have a punt on that lettuce...

Truss was not present in the commons for the Urgent Question directed to her
Mordaunt was VERY clear that she had urgent 'other business" - she said it many time and was trying hard con be convincing without saying what it was

She then turned up just before the New Pm - sorry Chancellor - started
then disappeared again

rumours on Twitter (yes - I know!) that the 'urgent business' was a meeting with Sir Graham Brady

followed by a scheduled meeting with the "One Nation Conservatives"

I think they are just cooking up a scheme where they whole Parliamentary party get together behind one candidate - so a lot of negotiation and conniving going on in private

Folowed by the country having another PM foisted on it - this time elected by even less people!

It's in Labour's interest to have Trusterfarkx in position as long as possible.
We have an adult now doing the heavy economic lifting.
If say Mordaunt for example gets the gig, she needs to kick-out Coughy and Cruella to further restore some sort of credibility....
