Having seen the footage of the incident involving him, he could be in some serious trouble.

He is stood facing a male who has his hands in his pocket, when Amesbury punches him to the face. On the footage shown, there is no basis to suggest it is self-defence.

That is not to say that there may well have been provocation. The video has no sound and does not show anything earlier. However, provocation is not a defence to an assault allegation. It would be interesting to know what was said before this to cause Amesbury to launch this violent attack

The footage also shows Amesbury approaching the male after punching him to the ground and repeatedly punching the victim on the ground (No kicking, just punching) - this attack on the victim after his earlier assault can only aggravate matters.

It's probably a good job for Mr Amesbury that prisons are full of right-wing thugs, so there is limited space for him to be locked up

Wonder if there may be a need for a by election in relatively near future

I thought it was all a bit of a non-story until I saw the footage. It's not very edifying

I suspect alcohol had been consumed.

Street fighting on a Saturday night isn’t a good look.

He seems to be saying he was feeling threatened

and also that someone - presumably the bloke he hit - was saying "Mp for sh********" - or some such thing

but the fact - as shown clearly in the video - that he hit a guy who had his hands in his pockets
and then followed up while the guy was on the floor

kinda means it doesn't matter what he said

also - he has been officially suspended by the Labour Party - which was inevitable

It is on the BBC Website too, if you don't wish to insult your eyeballs by reading a Daily Mail link, but, it would appear that Daily Mail may have an exclusive on at least some of the video. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6244gk9d4po
