The number of stupidly large things I strapped onto the roof rack on my Fiat Panda defies belief. A king sized bedframe hammering down the A19 was a particular highlight.

Me and a mate once carried a secondhand bed frame and mattress from Walworth Road (outside Labour Party HQ) to our flat in Camberwell.

Even in London you get some funny looks when carrying a fully built bed along a shopping street.

The journey had elements of Eric Sykes' Plank about it.

Everybody knows if you drive faster it will stabilise. I'm disappointed you tied it down though. The traditional way is to hold it down through the windows with your free driving hand.

I was in Currys car park last year when a guy with a small hatchback put a washer in the back and slammed the tailgate down. Glass everywhere.

Been there too. Probably the daftest was in the mid 80s and taking home a sofa bed on the roof rack of a Golf. This was in the very early days of Ikea and I mistakenly thought, like seemingly everything sold there, it would come in bits. I was a little shocked when it was wheeled out after the checkout, dressed not in cardboard but a clear plastic wrap.

Hey @winjim! It's not much to do with the thread but I saw this on Twitter and thought of you...

Ha. Yeah I saw that, it struck a chord as I had three birthday parties this weekend. Two days of bouncy castles in the rain and generic bearded dads in cargo shorts talking about Coldplay albums.

There is of course a whole episode of Bluey which revolves around the dad being distracted and a bit rubbish at making cakes so it's on brand. Fortunately my wife pulled it out of the bag once again with this Pokemon cake although I think she's regretting having set the bar too high by making our wedding cake herself ten years ago.

We've moved on a bit from Bluey in our house so I should probably change my avatar again.

My daughter has taken on the cake making mantle in our house (previously my wife's specialtty)-
This was her effort for my wife's last birthday (the inside was rainbow cake with surprise centre - this cake had enough sugar in to incapacitate many people!):-

They look excellent.

Daughter No1 is an avid cake maker/decorator

Personally, I deplore the demise of the "fruit cake" centre. ;)
