It's not gone up that much has it ? Fifty percent.I think I usually pay around 7 to 8 quid and I don't remember it being half that.

It used to be £5.50/bottle, now the price varies between £7 and £8, depending on what promotions they may have on. That is at my local ASDA, I have switched to a different brand of Rioja from ALDI, at £6. But, the biggest loss to me is not being able to bring it home from trips to Europe, I hardly used to buy any wine in UK, before Brexit.

Yea I forgot about that, having not been to France for a few years ! Your probally right about price...sort of just creeps up on you.Might have to go back to drinking meth if it goes up anymore.
I'm no wine expert but partner allways says the cheapest is sh1te,the most expensive isn't worth the money so we go middle of the road.Or if I've had a win at the bookies I might push the boat out and go M and S.^_^

Yes you have to take all the green bits off .

(The dandelions that is)

Don't let on about the wine under the floor though..
In these straightened times you could get yrself robbed..

I'm mounting a 24hr armed guard on my tomatoes.. 🫐🫐🫐🫐🫐
Dandelions - correct. And removing the green bits pretty quickly otherwise the flower closes. What a PITA.
We have to warn plumbers before they go through the trap door. They are just expecting pipes, concrete, dust and insulation. 😁

Me either, I would approximately agree with your partner. Have had some 1Euro stuff in France, which was palatable (probably sells for £4 in UK), but, generally, don't pay more than £7/bottle in UK, on the basis that anything more expensive is wasted on my ignorant 'Spoons taste buds.

A little amusing story, at my expense (literally). On first date with (current) Mrs @BoldonLad, we went for a meal. I foolishly did the flash thing of asking waiter for a recommendation for wine, (instead of doing the sensible thing and ordering the house wine). He recommended a very nice bottle of Barolo. It was rather nice, but, it cost more than the two meals!

Another bullshit story from me....one of my best friends was the wine waiter on the cruise ship.Used to get him p1ssed and take his keys for the wine trolley. Many a late night we'd flatten a bottle of 3/4 drunk wine and he'd go ballistic the next day as it was a 70/100 quid bottle Quickly refilled with the cheapest crap we could get hold of from the staff bar the next day.^_^
Usually Americans and non the wiser....

Brexit a disaster for SMEs says David Lambert, who supplies wine to M&S, Waitrose and others.

I seem to remember hearing that Lambert has now given up trading from the UK and is moving his business to the EU. The linked article confused me because it didn't mention this but then I realised it 18 months old.
