Is that some sort of medication designed to help you overcome the tendency to see puns everywhere?

It might have side effects. If the drugs work hopefully I won't be floundering around as much as I have been....

I agree totally.

Idiotic doctors wanted to take me OFF my Ritalin at one point as they said I outgrew it. You cannot outgrow ADHD, you just get better at handling it.

Which was responded to, by 4 different GPs, with the line 'I used to work in phsychiatry.' Well, if they did, they would know what they were saying was utter bollox.

And NHS GPs wonder why many people do not trust them? Sadly, I'm one of them after that 6 month period.

Good luck getting diagnosed on the NHS with ADHD. You'll need lots of it.

Fortunately my GP is an absolute star, we knew her by reputation before we moved to the area. The waiting list I'm on is for an autism peer support group. Obviously it's been impacted by Covid but still it's been a long time. I was going to wait until I got to the group to raise the possibility of ADHD as well as autism.

Anyway, if you think that's bad, you want to try waiting for a paediatric neurodevelopmental assessment. It's been years and years and years. Since before school age and she's about to go up into juniors. How the hell is she supposed to function?

I found a farm, some kittens, a daily bodywork practice, lots of cycling dancing and walking, fresh veg, being politically involved, and talking to fellow nutters on t'internet helps quite a lot...

All that should be available on prescription and everyone would be fine...

A lot of it is to do with forcing oneself to fit into neurotypically designed society. Being outdoors does help a lot.

My brain seems to still function moderately well, it's the carcass that needs more TLC nowadays. Chatting to my doctor the other day he started referring to 'endurance athletes'. I nearly burst out laughing when I realised he meant me.

I had a vile and vicious temper as a kid and I was taken to a phsychologist by the social workers to try and determine what the issue was. I was like Mount Etna, likely to explode at any time. Add in teenage hormones, and I was well over 6ft by this point, you couyld imagine their concern.

I was actually tested for Asperger's first but all the tests didn't match up (remember this was over 30 years ago so the technology wasn't there) then they went down the ADHD route and that all worked out. Took them about 3 months to get it right.

When I moved here to HK in 2014, I had to be restested, new doctor new city, and the diagnosis took about 3 hours.

Well having been through the childhood what you did, its no massive surprise if you became reactive / easily riled.

Yup, despite being 'quite bright' I realised early on that a desk or lab based life wasn't going to suit me well..

So being self employed, both practically doing stuff, and teaching also, for which a 'here there and everywhere' brain comes in handy, works pretty well..
