Get back from 'holidays' to face the prospect of the carefully crafted (if not without its flaws) ELMs scheme for post brexit agricultural support, at risk of being scrapped, or at least severely watered down ..
Quelle surprise.

So much work, study, and consultation, paid and unpaid went into devising this new scheme.
Which might..Just might, have been a tiny glimmer of small compensation in the otherwise barren wasteland of despair that is Brexit

Anyway, it's no surprise really.

But if anyone is in the area and fancies coming along to lend their voice in support of food and farming that puts people, good nutrition for all, and thriving sustainable ecosystems ahead of short termism, commodification of food, and profit for big corps only ..

We're doing this -
Next Saturday in that there Londin..

Of course, feel free to dress up as a carrot to protect your true Identity..

I kind of like the idea of The Met, having to decide whether or not to kettle a bunch of vegetables 🥘

You missed an excellent talk and discussion with Graham Harvey in Lyme this afternoon. There was a bar as well.

Cool..

I'm afraid I was otherwise engaged in birthday shenanigans.. Also involving a bar or two 😇

Although i did a 'sustainable food n farming' talk alongside Graham earlier this year..

It's possible he may have delivered again on similar themes.

We had nice chats afterwards too 👍🏼

We were chatting to Martin Hesp, the host, outside before the event, when Graham arrived. So we had a brief chat about grasslands and an argument he had with a friend of mine some decades ago. And about the Archers of course (see Keith Flett on Twitter about the socialist Archers). What was interesting was his insistence that water vapour is more important than CO₂, which slightly misses the point.
But E got a signed copy of his new book, and we had a wander round Lyme (hideous lamp standards!).

Leave voters were warned time and again that there would be a financial cost to leaving the EU and they still voted for it. Probably because money wasn’t the basis of their decision. Well money is becoming more of an issue now and there's no doubt leaving has added to the price we're paying that will take some people and families over the edge.

Give it 50 years (or so) and I'm sure everyone will all be really happy about it though 🙄

Hey sweetie..
Yup we made it 😊

No serious injuries, despite so many ups and downs* and endless clambering over geology..

A bit of an epic trip all in.
Good to be back though, it's quite restful to be coming back to farming .

Not sure I'm quite 'back' here though. 😇

* I find out afterwards it's smthng like 45,000+ m (that's metres) of ascent and descent sea to sea - probs best I wasn't totally across that stat before starting 😳

Welcome!

Mind you I've heard you have servants to do all the menial tasks on the farm ...
Now that's a fantasy I could get on board with being fulfilled...

I doubt anyone on here will give a t*ss in 50 years time.

Oh hello Shep.

Yes it must be great giving not a t*ss about anyone elses present, or future circumstances... 👍🏼

I guess that mindset starts in early childhood??

I think I'm a bit long in the tooth to be adopting it as a pose now. 🙄

Fill yer boots gal, while you're down in London this weekend waving your banner I'll be watching the Wolves getting beat up again with my mates and 'enjoying ' myself.

Let me know what you think you've achieved in 50yrs time, oh hang on a minute we'll all be dead.

Don't worry i'll be having a lovely time, and enjoying myself with my mates too :okay:

What it all achieves beyond solidarity building, and a bit more awareness, is anyone's guess, you can never really predict long term outcomes, but there's usually something good that comes out of it.

Have I missed the bit where all the people that didn't vote for Brexit because of immigration, but because they were worried about ever closer political ties, lose their shoot because of the new European Political Community which Truss has just returned from a meeting of?

I suppose that's what they voted for now?

And, of course, we now have more vacancies than we have unemployed, so we need more immigrants. Problem is, the pound's fallen, so we'll have to pay them more to come over to Fake Britain. So Brexit goes.

But there again, we seem to have a steady stream of people coming into the UK to live and work and we send them to rot in disparate hotels and condemned army barracks before spaffing millions to try to send them to Rwanda.
Maybe, just maybe, there could be some humane joined-up thinking somewhere in Westminster....
