No matter what or who is right....remain was a mistake !
Can't agree with that. In the long run, it's best to campaign for what you believe is right. If you go down the route of populism, you end up in the sort of mess the current govt. has led us into. Johnson, Truss, Frost - none of them really believe brexit is good for the country, certainly not the form of brexit they have delivered. Labour's response to the referendum was rather confusing and there was too much fence-sitting, but their basic approach under Corbyn and Starmer is actually a sound one - accept the referendum result, but look to keep a close relationship with the EU - I think eventually, that's where we will end up, when pragmatism and the UK's self interest eventually overcome the delusional fantasy world of the brexit charlatans.

I hope so too but it’s going to be painful getting to that point.

I'd have took leave with a Corbyn goverment without a second thought....going against the referendum has got us where we are now.

No it hasn't, the ERG and the DUP voting against May's deal has got us to where we are now.
Labour going back on its 2017 commitment to honour the referendum was a far bigger cost !
Then there change to support a second referendum went down like a lead balloon.I think it was something like 70% of leave voters voted Tory.
They should have respected the leave vote.

More people voted for anti-Brexit/second ref parties than for pro, rather ironically I believe it was the now infamous 52:48 split.

As we don't have proportional representation and therefore people vote tactically or anyway don't vote, I think this is too close a split to draw big conclusions from.

You are right. It would have been far more politically expedient to have respected the result, perhaps, not “right” as in best for the Country, but, best for Labour, might have even shored up the “red wall”.

Is political expediency a cure or a problem? Where does the balance lie?
