Did you know it already?

I may have a slight advantage as I've been doing art based stuff for pretty much my whole adult life...

Steichen is kind of a big deal in that world.

Aha. Apart from the colouration, it's extraordinary - could have been taken yesterday. Yeah, pity about the colourisation - the post I took it from was misleading.

At least it's honest I suppose. The marriage thing is weird though.

Apparently Ireland's marriage ban in the civil service lasted till 1973, when Ireland joined the EEC!

https://www.ictu.ie/news/marriage-bar-ban-employing-married-women

"The legislation ending the marriage bar in the Irish civil service became law 50 years ago today, on 31 July 1973. The marriage bar required single women civil servants to resign from their job when they married and banned married women from joining the permanent civil service."

That drawing of the lady in the bath is a bit on point. 😁

Common throughout Europe. If you married you had to resign or be sacked. The one in teaching in England was ended after the war though I think a few others continued into the 60s and 70s until the Sex Discrimination Act.

The last sentence ...... 'They must be fairly good looking'.

I agree that this is discrimination against *very* attractive people.

Yeah, that's terrible isn't it? I mean .. what on earth does "fairly" mean?!? That's a massive loophole.

Not sure. I guess somebody had to make the decision. Maybe they did a line up, like Miss World. 'The one on the end's a looker but is she sturdy enough?'. That article would have been from 1935 to 45. 90 years on and the Met still can't get their vetting procedures right.
