I didn't. But bedroom stayed at the 25 mark, and sleep was had. I'm liking the look of the natural aircon for the next several nights till I go off to France for a bit.

28C in the bedroom last night, 27C at dawn.
24C downstairs at 6-30.
It’s supposed to be much cooler but went to the shops at 8am and it was scorchio.

It's almost impossible to cool the house down when the overnight dip in temperature is not deep or long. This is the sensor in the shade in the garden.

Is there any sort of weather that Brits are good at coping with when compared with the rest of the world? Snow? No. Cold? No. Monsoon? No. Heat? No.

Not really, other than generally grey and moderate... one of the downsides of living in a temperate part of the world whose weather has been dominated by being stuck out into the Atlantic and in the gulf stream. So we generally haven't had to invest in stuff that has been needed for drought, or snow, or forest fires, etc., unlike most of the rest of the world on one way or another.
Meanwhile, France are (I think) investing in more Canadairs to fight forest fires: they've now got five (rather than four) in my bit, and they've already been deployed in the past week for two fires close by.

29.5 on the Nest thermostat in the lounge at midnight. Definitely hotter in the bedroom...

We have some of the most changeable weather in the world. Or at least in the north west part of Europe, south of Norway.

Just sang at an event attended by Prince William as he’s a patron. It wasn’t advertised he was attending but we guessed he might be, I was amazed by the complete lack of any security. There was no checking of anyone going in, no protection officers that came into the room (although I guess they were there somewhere). Compare and contrast with anything involving POTUS - when Obama stayed at the same hotel you could get within the hotel grounds without clearance and he was then flown in and out in one of a pair of US Marine Ospreys. OK, it was known in advance he’d be there but I doubt any US President or Vice President does a low key in and out event without dozens of Secret Service agents and everyone being searched.

I guess that counts as a big forest fire, though the Pyrenees/TDF are getting all the firefighting water planes. It wouldn't be so catastrophic if it weren't for the strong northerlies (you'd never guess, eh?), but it's spreading quickly and ferociously, I assume burning everything (hence the plume), not just whizzing past and leaving stuff standing, as it did here in 2022.
