To me there is nothing wrong with that extension. It does not block the light of other house/gardens too much or invade privacy, and the most important thing is the internal design and the pleasure the owners get out of it. They spend more time inside looking out than outside looking in, and I am not convinced their neighbours spend much time sitting in their gardens looking at the extension, especially those in the messy garden next door. If so they need to get a life.
