There was also this satirical genius from one of his last 'Spectator' articles.

"I had a notion the other day that there was possibly more I could offer to this fleeting world. A feeling that with life having been comparatively kind to me, perhaps there is something I could put back. I have these thoughts about once every month – and usually they are idly dismissed because they are either unrealistic or homicidal.

For example, it would be well nigh impossible to smash every single white, middle-class, middle-aged liberal in the throat until his trachea exploded in a chiaroscuro of livid pink foam and vaporised black lung stuff. Way too many tracheas and not enough time, sadly. Let them continue living a lie, was the conclusion I came to, reckoning that one day they will be brought to judgment before a God who is perhaps more vigorously right of centre on certain issues than they had dared imagine".

And the police investigated a t shirt about making plans for Nigel.

I think there's some truth in this: if your professional public-facing persona is one that spews hatred, I think it's not unreasonable that people who only know the public persona can comment on that basis when you die.

Funny isn't it. Whenever a right wing politician or commentator makes veiled or overt threats they are at great pains to tell us how it was all an obvious joke and that we are all 'snowflakes'. Yet whenever they are on the receiving end of similar jokes, their life is at great risk and the police should investigate it immediately. It is almost as if they may be disingenuous.

"Sh1t, the editor wants me to actually write something for my salary. What can I use as a subject - ooh, inspiration Tarquin is wearing a beret today and has onions around his shoulders".

Globe artichokes in their case, I suspect. Onions are far too working class.

They've been there 6 years and those kids look about 9 and 7, so likely never been at school in the UK. Unless you kept them indoors 24/7 it would unusual for them not to be completely assimilated into their new home, having moved so early on and barely known anything different.
(Obviously haven't read the article as it's paywalled, but summer filler article is my guess)

I wouldn't be surprised if the parents end up only half understanding what their children are saying in French, as their spoken vocab and grammar won't be anything like the language even older French people speak, let alone the kind of formal French we learn in the UK.

I wonder if similar situations arise in other Countries?

I'd suggest that the councillor in question check his Highway Code for starters, especially the change about turning into side roads. And then learn how to drive safely.

https://eastdevonnews.co.uk/2026/08...pot-cycle-path-sparks-row-pinhoe-and-whipton/

“Nobody expects to turn into a road to be confronted with a priority cycle path within a couple of metres of turning, so people look into the middle ground and distance rather than the lines just in front of their bonnet.”
