Make babies pay taxes!! Freeloaders.

Get them down the sewers and up the chimneys. Ah, the good old days.

Doesn't that depend on what they are earning? And whether they are in low paid jobs that are eligible for tax credits/universal credit, housing benefit, and so on? Also, migrants have children at some point usually, and still need healthcare, even if it's not at the same rate as oldies.

Or you can do it the Tory way, pay the £10 into a shell company on the Isle of Man for reasons of 'tax planning' 😉 and then blame the lack of money for public services as a result of said 'tax planning' 😉 on Asylum Seekers.

When it comes to tax planning, you should talk to the experts 😃

Not sure who the Radio 5 reporter was covering the Lib Dem conference. He seemed to completely miss the point of their complaint about the amount of coverage Reform gets in comparison and kept banging on about how many times Davey was going to mention them in his speech. The reason he needs to mention them is due to the amount of coverage they are getting compared to all the Parties outside the big 2 (and probably including at least the Tories at present) which means he has to make a counterpoint to all the nonsense they spout from their over-sized platform.

Good to see that at least one party has the balls/sense to stand up to Farage instead of simply trying to outdo him.
Finally!

It's pretty clear which party Ed Davey thinks is the biggest threat to the Lib Dems.

It does. Thankfully immigrants are proportionally more economically active than the average fat gormless Daily Mail reader with a half empty tin of red paint.

According the the ONS, there are over 9million working age people "economically inactive", why do we need more babies?
We are an ageing population. A large number of the economically inactive appeared since the pandemic. As a balanced leftie, it annoys me not only how blunt the front bench welfare proposals were, but how simplisticly obstructive the numpty backbenchers were about welfare reforms.

'Economically inactive' includes students, who will in due course become active; OAPs, who probably won't; unpaid carers for family, etc.; and the chronically ill.

The 9+ million is people aged 16-64, so, not oaps.

No doubt there are carers in there, and, chronically ill, but, not all 9 million.

It would be good to have some objective assessment of the need for immigration

For the record, I’m not against immigration.

Yes, based on anecdotal evidence, I would agree. Even among the refugees there are, I am told some working illegally, no doubt doing jobs the cohort you mention will not get out of bed for.
