I read that Gove is going to throw his support behind Badenoch. That'll be the kiss of death for her campaign then.

She knows she won’t win.
She’s just upping her profile.

The 1922 committee are arranging hustings tonight.
They have only booked 8 slots for speeches.
Which suggests they don’t think more than 8 will get more than 20 nominations.

Truss voted remain. She now pursues Brexit with a fervour comparable to that of an ex-smoker....

Converts are usually the most fervent, even if they are only pretend converts.

Zahawi has gone full loony by saying he will offer Johnson a cabinet position.

We're into the silly tactics phase of the process already then. Presumably he's calculating that there are enough Johnson loyalists left in the party and trying to outmanoeuvre the Truss/Mogg/Dorries behemoth.

I think a lot of MPs, whatever their personal views on the man, will be desperately trying to figure out if Johnson is still popular enough among the party membership and among Tory voters to make association with him an asset rather than a liability.
