two charges of rape didn’t stick.
Which is interesting.
But shows the jury have spent some time considering the evidence on each charge.

I thought the same. I wonder if he tried using his new found faith in his defence, or if his team (wisely) told him that would be unbelievably transparent and not work.

And the CPS are reviewing two further rape allegations.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the flood gates opened now.

He's been remanded in custody and told to expect a lengthy custodial sentence. The judge can't exactly go back on that...
I would hope and expect that as he is reported to have shown no remorse and to have put the victims through recounting their traumatic experiences again in court and be cross examined again in court would mean his sentence would be at the more severe end of the guideline ranges.
(But I'm no lawyer and was not present for any of the court hearings, etc.)

Of the many aspects to this and similar cases, one I wonder about is the reaction & response of the offender's partner. Does the partner just convince themselves the court verdict was wrong, do they accept staying with a convicted rapist, do they stand by the accused through the trial on the "innocent until proven guilty" basis and then file for divorce on there being a guilty verdict, etc.?

The jury were taking so long I was half expecting him to walk free.

It's interesting that he first dated his wife when she was 18 and him 29. His sister wanted her to break up with him. That initial relationship ended because of his promiscuity and they got together again some years later. I wouldn't do it myself, but I think some women stay with these men because they are very, very heavily invested in the relationship and thus blinded to any possibility other than their partner being innocent.

I hadn't realised he only converted to Christianity 2 years ago. I'm going to be cynical here and wonder if he knew what was coming and thought it might be helpful.

I think she might stick with him, based on her comments here:

More fool her if she does.

That's my impression too. Could be a long wait.

I wonder if the legal injunction gentleman is regretting his decision. If the Guardian had run it's story in the last few weeks it might have received a lot less attention whilst Brand was centre stage. Now Brand's trial is over it's going to be bigger news than ever.

My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that his conversion happened AFTER the Times investigation
Eg in 2023 Government issued the warning

Media Advisory Notice: Russell Brand

The Attorney General confirms the requirement not to publish material which could prejudice any potential criminal investigation or prosecutions.https://www.gov.uk/government/news/media-advisory-notice-russell-brand
Also in 2023
British media report rape and emotional abuse allegations against Russell Brand

Both 3 years ago by my limited maths.

I read 2024 earlier but perhaps that might refer to his actual baptism - by Bear Grylls in the Thames, apparently - rather than his actual taking up of the beliefs.

And of course, it's 20 years since Dannii Minogue called him a 'vile predator' so I guess he could imagine what might transpire eventually. It makes me think of Saville and his fundraising. Did he do it out of genuine goodwill? Or to salve his conscience? Or to gain access to victims? Or because it made him too heroic a figure to contemplate investigating, despite the rumours? The last 2 I think.
