The new Met Office desktop version. The current one gets lots of information in one view; the new 'beta' version, well, not so much. Suffice to say, yes, I have left feedback, including the observation that they are *still* not publishing the confidence rating which I know they calculate for each forecast.

I gave same feedback and additionally they were not giving wind strength/gust strength (no idea if changed since). It's dreadful in the over simplification and lacking information. Previous "old" layout by default was simple but allowed extra detail with "reveal" arrow indicators and the "reveal state seemed to be remembered. New one a waste of time.

Just had a look and changed since my feedback so now seems to have likelihood of rain (%age) and wind speeds but can't find gusting speeds (in forecast).

Just click on detailed view and it gives everything as far as I can tell (with some additional options for humidity, visibility and UV).

Re: UK Met Office
Disappoints me how other countries national forecast agency make their forecasts available to 3rd party apps, many of which have way way way better forecast presentation. DWD (Germany), KNMI (Netherlands), RMI (Belgian), Meteo-France (France Arome & Arpege models which are good) NOAA (US), CMC (Canada) all make forecasts available free to 3rd parties. UK Met Office don't and limited to their rather crääpy web site and their rubbish smartphone app.

Is that on phone or laptop? Can't find any 'detailed view' button on laptop.

FWIW, I did send a message: to their credit I got a reply, but it just said to use the feedback button on the new forecast page.

Never saw that. What a rubbish layout, diabolical presentation. Can't really understand why they are spending money changing it for something that is at best for some "the same" but worse for others. No "up-side".

Desktop (Safari): For me you have to scroll right down below the main forecast section to "Today's Weather" where there is a "tab" to the right.

Nowhere else to put this, but I just learnt that all state school teachers are paid the same irrespective of the subject they teach. There is a widespread shortage of maths teachers. Presumably trying to pay maths teachers more will cause problems, so they have opted for not having any. This is an intriguing mess.

On the laptop, it's just below the map.

I believe the government offers enhancements for those subjects https://www.gov.uk/guidance/targeted-retention-incentive-payments-for-school-teachers

Got it. FFS, that's utterly daft, hiding info that was right there at the top, in its entirety, on the old version.

I'm pretty sure that the objective has been to make the desktop version behave like the Android app, so they've lost any advantage of having a screen ten times the size of a phone screen.

Copilot can't explain how that scheme is different to Birmingham council's one beyond the fact that around 60% of maths teachers are male vs 95% of refuse workers.

Interesting. A teacher needs to apply for that every year and only in their first five years. Sounds a bit like what the binmen were getting in Birmingham.

I guess it's about the only solution before the Unions kick up a fuss about it. Skills in maths and sciences open up other jobs too so they are also competing against those whereas English teachers or humanities teachers probably have less career options. It's an obvious problem that would be addressed by incentives in the private sector but in unionised public sector roles with no grasp of reality someone will always cry foul.
