I just discovered you can no longer travel as a foot passenger from Dover to Calais. Trivially sad.

Wow. When i was a bored student we used to get £1 day return foot passenger tickets just to buy cheap booze from duty free on board. Only real limit was what you could carry.
you didn’t even have to get off at Calais, just had to report to a muster station to check passports.

Even Plymouth Roscoff was only about £15 return in the mid 90s.

It appears you still can which slightly surprised me, because many years ago they were the same ticket.

Yep, though when I did Portsmouth St Malo in 2012, I was surprised that it had changed and cost quite a lot by then, given that a bike + rider hardly take up any room, and a rider spends money on a ferry that takes several hours.

My parents would buy two of those and not use two parts of them. Wouldn't work in the digital age.

People who don't know how to cough and when to give up. There's a woman on the train who's been coughing with exactly the same effort for 15 minutes, then sniffing rather than using a handkerchief to get rid of any expelled mucus. Zero result other than me thinking "Off with her head!"

To be fair it's not good etiquette to gob it out on the floor of a train.
