Whatever can we do about that? I'm sure I remember David Blunkett as education secretary saying too many kids were achieving below average and he was going to sort it out. Did he fail?

Everyones vote and opinions are valid. Just because they don't align with others doesn't mean they're not worthy.

I've not seen the news yet but have Labour come out with their standard line "Going further & Faster". Seems their answer to anything and everything like the solution to any and all our problems is "Further and faster".

Ian

In which case they're probably just going to make it worse for themselves.

Just look at the Kent County Council results.
A nightmare if you are a Conservative.
They have lost 42 out of 43 seats!

Being lazy (or rather busy doing house repairs), have the Conservative results got worse than the last General Election of improved on that vote?

ie is Ms Badenoch improving things or making them worse? I regard her ongoing excuse that she's still "new in post" as complete rubbish as parties often get a positive bounce on getting a new leader as people believe things will be better ie on prospects but at least by now one would expect some signs of things improving.

I suppose if by 'harder and faster' he means f***ing the county, then his statement is probably accurate.
The daft thing about the periodic "further and faster" is that is it is a good thing to do they should be doing that anyway, not noticing it every bit of bad news. But Starmer/Reeves/et. al. seem to only think "further and faster" is a plan when there is eg increased borrowing or loss of consumer confidence or election disaster. Why is it only a good idea when bad things happen to Labour?

I would call losing 3 or 4 seats a nightmare, this is more like a wipeout.
I also find it hard to believe this came out of itself they probably have been ignoring their voters wishes and demands for some time.

Depends a bit on what it is which is the main problem with Starmer's labour so far it seems to be like the Tories but with other puppets and sponsors.
Think it would be better form them to concentrate on actually explaining their position and potential long(er) term views in order to convince poeple why they voted for them last elections, because if they fail to do so i see them losing net elections.

From what I can see labour will win no council outright, all NOC councils are due to Reform surge.

Reform have upto now, taken overall control of 7 councils

The national projected vote share.

It’s been great for Reform. Pretty bad for Labour, but worse for Conservatives.

The danger is that the Conservatives will move right to chase Reform, but they can’t “out reform” Reform. And in doing so they will lose what ever moderate support they may have. And they are unlikely to move left. So they are in a lot of bother.
I can see some sort of “non compete pact” at the next election, which would have to be matched by a similar lab/lib/green pact.
