Of course. But to deliberately avoid answering several times in a row is to feed the troll. Why not just be honest.
This reeks.

I'd have more respect for him if he just said flat out he wasn't going to answer the question. Fine, move on. But all this 'nothing improper' business makes it all sound dodgy as hell.

My vote in the next election is up for grabs but after watching that interview I am less likely to vote Labour.

Reeks of shiftiness. Things to hide. That tends to be the thought where someone refuses to answer a question.

I think he is just avoiding pouring petrol on a fire. It's really a lose-lose situation for Starmer, so he is sticking to his guns and repeating 'nothing improper'.

But what is it that you think he's hiding? What actually is it that you think is 'improper'?

I neither know nor care. The point is that he is deliberately making himself look shifty by failing to answer the question.
The logical conclusion that viewers (and particularly viewers of this program) draw is that he did approach Sue Grey during her investigation and this therefore justifies the right-wing tabloid message that Boris is therefore exonerated as the review into Partygate was biased.

We all know that's rollocks, but it just makes Starmer look as shady as the Tories.
If there is one thing a Politician should learn, it's "answer the question or state that you aren't going to".

So we've obviously got Guido picking this up, and now urgent questions going in from the Johnson loyalists. Is he going to answer those in the same manner or does he have an ace up his sleeve in this game of multidimensional chess?

Starmer supporters saying he's being clever and there's going to be a big reveal leaving the Tories with egg on their faces. A big reveal of... nothing of course, just a correctly administered hiring procedure. Fascinating.

Remember when it was Corbyn supposedly playing the long game? Now it's Starmer. But let's not forget that it's maybe 18 months to the next general election. People claiming the Tories are done for and defeat is a certainty but they've got time to turn it around. I don't think they will but a year and a half is a long time so unlikely as it is it's not impossible.

Remember when the Tories tried to raise a stink over Starmer having a bottle of beer?

Same shoot, different day.

If you're correct that means Starmer's done nothing which is very on brand. All he's got to do is carry on doing nothing for another 18 months and hope that nobody else does anything either.

As I said before, I don't know how I'm going to vote at the next election. The person I was going to vote for has had to withdraw so I'm open to the possibility of voting for anybody notTory. I also don't know, genuinely don't know whether Starmer cares about my vote. It's gonna be Labour or LibDem where I live and I'm absolutely not going to vote Tory under any circumstances so maybe he's concentrating on getting Tory voters to switch to Labour in constituencies where it'll make more of a difference. Maybe there's some wizardry going on that I'm not aware of or don't understand. Maybe the Sue Gray appointment is part of it, maybe not. If there is some secret strategy going on and it works, great. But I can't speak for other voters, only myself, and I am less likely to vote Labour after seeing that interview clip. Nothing to do with Tory spin, he just comes across as fundamentally untrustworthy.

"A lose-loser situation for Starmer". Brought about entirely by Starmer's actions. That's really a rather poor tactical blunder. Frankly, had Starmer been smarter, he wouldn't have put himself in this position, would he? (I'd actually be delighted to be proven wrong here: that Starmer actually does have some winning strategy. His evasiveness over answering questions on this doesn't bode well though, does it?)

I think we've got every right to expect better from the leader of the Labour party.

It's a dead cat. Starmer made an appointment. Unless you are suggesting that Labour ingeniously plotted to force the Tories to have parties in No10, so that they could then be investigated by their deep implant, Gray, then its a non-story.

"Starmer looks shifty". Really? Is that it? Is that the level of political analysis?

Meanwhile the Tories are self-destructing again over WhatsApp revelations.

The irony of criticising someone for saying a politician looks shifty, when you've got Renton as your avatar made me chuckle.

If it's a dead cat then I'll say the same about Starmer as I said about Corbyn, which is that he needs to be prepared for this level of scrutiny and this level of hostility. Corbyn in interviews came across like a grumpy sod who couldn't handle criticism and Starmer comes across like a middle manager promoted via the Peter principle.

Either Starmer didn't realise that the Gray appointment would lead to such a fuss in which case he's naive, or he knew and went ahead despite or even because of it in which case he should have been prepared to defend the decision in interviews.

Do you think my vote is a priority to him?
