Oh that's good, I guess. I mean, if someone like me is moved to defend Phillips (who has basically spent the last ten years helping to bury the left) then I guess it means that other people who matter more are maybe a bit taken aback by how much of a ruthless self-interested shit Streeting is, and he's had to rein it in a bit.

Has he back-pedalled at all on inviting the loony racist billionaire to "roll up his sleeves"and help with the pogroms?

So you haven’t quite decided yet to support him if a Labour leadership vacancy occurs?

In Phillips’ defence even those who commit suicide need burying.

No worries - I doubt she'd heard of you either.

I also had NFC who she was. Google led me to this entertaining article about her and some other stuffs (which isn't very relevant to this thread, but some might enjoy it): https://www.churchtimes.co.uk/artic...awn-foster-had-a-rare-and-wonderful-integrity

The elephant in the room is that the rise of the far right is linked to immigration...whether here, in the US or Europe where people seem to have lost faith in "the traditional political class" i.e. politicians to resolve the concerns (whether justified or not) they have, and the far right know that populism on some issues is a powerful tactic.

She was beatified after her death by the left wing of the Labour party as she fulfilled the holy trinity of expectations of the left wing (never actually achieving anything and therefore never being able to be held to account, being vulgar, attacking and undermining those who did deliver for the Labour Party)

  • People killed by the Starmer Government: 0 so far.
  • Illegal activities carried out: 0 so far
  • Interest rates, stable and slowly decreasing
  • GDP Forecast + 0.8%
  • Money spent on vanity projects, mistresses, and giving contracts to mates: 0% so far
  • Number of wars started: 0 so far
It's not outstanding by any means, and could be doing far more, but thus far Starmer has supplied stability and reliability. Maybe that's better than some utter moron screeching about small boats and trying to work out how to embezzle money so that they can get a cushy job when they leave Politics?

Forecast GDP is just that, a Forecast, it is what actually happens that is interesting.

As a fellow PE reader, I assume you have read the comments about the multimillion contracts handed out to various consultancies and "experts", despite claims that such largesse was to be brought under control.

Ah....I get it. An accusation of misogyny, based on the Foster's gender alone, and not relating to anything I actually said.

Bit cheap, Ian.

I expect @theclaud will be along to defend you later.

Yep - but they haven't done it any *more* than the last lot. I'm not saying the current government is great, only that the bar measurement to being less shoot that the previous incumbents isn't terribly high, and so far they are sailing over it pretty easily.

It would be nice if they were actually being seen to be doing something rather than continuing the status quo, and actually planning things properly rather than taking cheap shots, but we can't have everything.

If I had a magic wand I'd give Sir Ed Davey a chance or even whoever is in charge of the Green Party these days.

I think the problem is, we are not getting ANYTHING

Rising taxes and declining Public Services is not a good look, especially from the (supposed) champion of Public Services.

I think that's a bit unfair. This was a recommendation of the Jay report that campaigners have been wanting implemented for years. None of the recommendations have been fully implemented by the Tories, nor were slated to be fully implemented by Labour.
If Musk drawing attention to what is a national disgrace got this speeded up, if only through embarrassment, I don't think that's pulling strings. It's bowing to pressure, which is not uncommon in politics, often relies on one person highlighting it, and isn't necessarily a bad thing, eg double jeopardy law, offender disclosure scheme.
