The Foreign Office employs 17,500 people.

So that's about £28 per person.

It's not a great look, but (once again) isn't the hilarious gotcha you think it is.

The foreign office also includes all the overseas ambassadors and diplomats.
It is basically their job to get the forerro rocher out and make a good impression.

The footballification of politics has completely scrambled the brains of people.

Would it surprise Andy if he finds very few people support this type of spending irrespective of who they vote for?

Also nonsense, unless you seriously think they are going to invite lower level staff. These numbers on itself don't really say that much, as it doesn't provide a comparison how much did the tories spend in their first 4 months in the foreign office, if you have those numbers it would be a bit more fair alltough in all honesty a tory goverment that lasts longer than 4 months is a stretch by all means.

I'm sorry, how is it nonsense?

I don't have the figures for the Conservatives first four months Foreign Office spend but would hazard a guess that it would be about the same.

I don't think it's for the entire department. It says restaurants and bar expenses. I would expect it to be for the erm 'senior' staff.

Still £500k for food drink, don't people pay for their own stuff anymore.

I know I don't. I walk into Tesco with an empty trolley, fill it full of food and then i simply walk back out again and nobody says anything. The security guard just nods and gives me the thumbs up.

Great ay it.

Well that actually happens now in many towns and cities in the UK.

Oh yeah, just keep it below 200 quid and the shop assistants will even load your car for you.

Nah they are literally carrying as much as they can, security do absolutely nothing in virtually all situations. There are loads upon loads of clips online

Mein gott - £28 a head? for meals out in London?!? Call an election now!!!
And maybe even some of that might be recovered through HMRC. One job I had for a bit each Christmas the company would give every employee a Christmas hamper as a "thank you" and each tax year the declarations the company sent in to HMRC would include a declaration of the value of the hamper which would be added to out income for the year and taxed at whatever rate we paid income tax at.

So for Foreign Office probably depends on the circumstances.

My point is that the whoe disussion about 500k for 4 months is nonsense if you don't have numbers to compare it with.
Just to be clear that is not aimed at you but whoever brings this at news, i know the bar of being an ''news reporter'' is not very high but least it should involve is showing the full numbers, not just one number to stage something that causes outrage.
