Starmer using foreign aid budget to fund war chest, but is also funding chagos deal. . Might be able to fund a few more boat people
A few quotes come to mind:That doesn't make any sense. But then what's new!?
Because they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.Re: Overseas Aid Cuts
Disappoints me that extra funding for defence has to come from Overseas Aid. Why can't Starmer & Reeves get over their mental block about taxing people who go to work in suits and get salaries monthly (rather than wages weekly). Tax online gambling would raise close to a billion, carried interest (just venture capitalists and hedge fund bonuses) loads more, energy providers windfall adds more, reduce hydrocarbons subsidies more, etc.. There is plenty of options to raise money without impacting their holy grail ("growth"). So why cut something they spoke out strongly against cutting just a few years ago rather than use the available alternatives?

Probably (OK, certainty) wasn't a good description of a group of people. I was really meaning taxing those on high end incomes with bonus payments that make your eyes water. The same group who do so much lobbying Starmer & Reeves and start the "we'll move overseas if you start taxing us ..."Apparently, approximately 15% of employees are paid weekly, I am amazed it is that many.
