Personally, I think all this stuff about 'Trump likes Starmer' is nonsense. Trump is a malignant sociopath, and he, Starmer and Macron are all playing the same game. This is as much about domestic politics and how they are seen at home as anything else.

Trump has got Europe to panic about potential NATO withdrawal, and then been utterly charming in person. It was likely his plan all along.

Regardless, it was still a good outcome for Starmer.

The Govt has poo-poohed Mandelsons words pretty promptly.

He's meant to be Ambassador and as such is meant to represent the UK Government NOT to make policy. Seems to me he's trying to make policy. I neither like nor trust him so I'd say he needs to be sacked; but reecognising it's a "first offence" maybe more moderate politicians should just explain to him in words of one syllable what his role is.
