Something nasty in the woodshed
Pretty much but more joke. I just think they’re full of themselves (but then I think the same of most prog rock, especially ELO). Didn’t think I’d need to resort to emojis to make it obvious

Sorry - didn't pick up on the irony!

I sort of think the best prog is quite self-aware, and it's interesting how many musicians who make incredibly serious, self-indulgent & bombastic music don't tend to be remotely serious people. That's my excuse, anyway. ^_^ To carry on dragging the thread off-topic, I'd never really considered ELO to be prog - but interestingly the very first album I became utterly obsessed with as a kid was New World Record. Will have to re-visit it, having not played it for easily 40 years.

Anyway - I bet Starmer likes really shite music, assuming he likes music at all.

I'm thinking Celine Dion.

If you call Beethoven really shite, yup. I'm not a great fan, I must admit, though "really shite" maybe is putting it too strongly.

Before he became a human rights lawyer – or the Prime Minister – it seems Sir Keir Starmer was something of a musical prodigy. In his early years he played the flute, piano, recorder and violin, and was once a young scholar at the Guildhall School of Music in London.

The former barrister, who was elected to succeed Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister this July, spoke about his early musical years in an interview with On The Hill magazine, in answer to a question about his passions (which, he says, are “music, classical music”).

What kind of music, Starmer, Keir Starmer? “Beethoven piano sonatas”, he replies, pausing to add, “actually all things Beethoven.”

I just find them similar to all those 'edgy' left-wing comedians in the 80s "look at how radical and controversial I'm being" when it's all really just very obvious anti-establishment type stuff that you would have heard in the Student Union back then.

I thought it was famously Taylor Swift or was that another politician that got stick for taking free tickets to see her?

Taking a freebie doesn't necessarily make them a favourite.
In fact, going for free is probably the best way to see less favoured acts. 😉
