Excellent trolling, not least as it's true.

So, Labour's new idea is to remove asylum seeker's jewellery etc and throw them into camps?

Haven't we seen this before?

We get worried about the prospect of Farǎge being Prime Minister. Seems to me in effect he is already. He might not be the name of the letterhead but he is driving policies, what he wants done Starmer does for him. In effect Starmer is now Farãge's proxy

I don't think that it is stretching a point to say that Farage has been the most influential person in British politics in the past 10 years.
This includes all PMs. Truss could have been more influential but wasn't given enough time, thankfully.

Its well over £12bn last year. That would go a long way to helping. Then there is the £12bn to just house illegal migrants. Plus the ballooning social security Bill with an additional 1 million plus claimants since last year.

Asylum seekers are not illegal migrants under the law. However billionaire Americans overstaying their visa are, maybe it's this group you have in mind?

Common knowledge but I had't fully appreciated the sources of asylum applications.

Interesting graphic highlighting how small the small boat asylum application numbers are in the "immigration problem that needs solving". What I hadn't appreciated is how there are significantly more asylum applications from others not arriving in small boats. Starmer et. al. really are disproportionately focusing on the smallest group people coming to UK.

Successful applications of asylum of small boat arrivals is reckoned to be currently less that 4% of total of visas granted.

Another case of soft target selection. The ''but they don't work'' mantra is too rarely countered by the truth that they are not allowed to work because of the appeasement of the mantra ''they're coming here taking all our jobs'' Trumpwits.

The argument, presumably, is that the UK is consenting to all the others coming. Plus students tend to leave at the end.
In 2024 there were 16,000 asylum claims from students holding Uk Student Visas. 40,000 asylum claims from people holding a visa, alomst the same numbers as those crossing in small boats given slight discrepancies in year covered (https://wonkhe.com/blogs/international-students-and-asylum-claims/ - I have no experience of the source but it seems one dedicated to Higher Education

Edit: Corrected typo in date from 2026 (wrong) to 2024 (better).

It still remains in the UK's gift to provide the visas in the first place, so if there are too many asylum claims from one country, they can restrict the student visas for that country.
