Much as I'm not a fan of Starmer, I don't really see what else he's supposed to do?
It's not a snappy interaction grabber on social media, but considering the options and putting an actual plan in place is surely a better option than coming up with a half baked plan that either falls apart or faces so many legal challenges as to be pointless.
The guy can't really win, because either way he's getting ripped to shreds. I wonder if he'll end up having a Cameron moment and thinking "Ah, f*ck it, if that's what you want." and fuelling the political bin fire of Britain (which only really keeps the media warm) a wee bit more.
No he can't win, because he lacks clarity of vision, conviction of his beliefs, he jimps on every minority position. He hasn't listened to the people of the nation for most of his political career.
Take the gender issue. Some years ago he stood with trans community, saying some women can have a penis, then flopped to no women cannot have a penis. He ignored women's complaints regarding their rights, stood by when one his own women mp Rosie Duffield was hounded out of the party because of her perfectly sensible comments.
He would not come out (pun) and state the position of women and their rights, took the supreme court. Even then over a week to make the most basic acknowledgement.

Before 𝕏 was under control , heavily censored and dissenting opinions removed. It's now open, you can get historical statements which contradicts current political position making these political figures look dishonest and without backbone.
I've got far more respect for Corbyn, though I don't agree with his politics. He pretty much stands by ideas he's had for decades.
Starmer on the other hand is like a compass caught in magnetic storm with his political position.
Having enforced a no vote against a national rape gang enquiry, calling most the country racists, now has capitulated to the pressure from social media, public opinion and high profile figures ridiculing him relentlessly
