Why does it always take a report when British people have been saying it for years

Another fine example from the Tedious Graph today….
PM's smoky bacon surrender to Brussels
Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of a "smoky bacon surrender" after it emerged British crisp manufacturers must change their recipes because of his Brexit reset deal. Brussels has banned eight flavouring methods which are still allowed in Britain, including those used for smoky bacon crisps. Now the Prime Minister has agreed to dynamically align with EU rules on food safety, the flavourings will have to be modified as the EU fears they could cause cancer.
How dare his risk saving us from cancer... what's the point of sovereignty if we can't grow our own British Tumours?!
Actually, as minor as this might seem, it's a reasonably good sign of the 'direction of travel' - it would certainly be difficult to square that with allowing dodgy US foodstuffs in the the UK market.

It's the "nanny state" isn't it?, telling us what we can and can't eat or drink 😂
Can't remember the last time I even saw a packet of Smokey Bacon. They used to be a regular purchase.
The Walkers' ones used to be marked as vegan (or was it just vegetarian?), and then they weren't.
Apparently they were "halal", though not officially certified as such.
Some people like being nannied.
Although strangely it's still pretty easy to buy ciggies in the EU. Maybe Eurociggies are better?
