The claim (not saying it is true, I was commenting on the claim) was that it included a dodge of inheritance tax. Personally, I see nothing wrong in that, after all, the Miliband's did it, but, the difference is, I dont go around saying that other people should pay more taxes. 😊

Rachel Reeves has confirmed ahead of her speech to the Labour party conference that she no longer stands by a pledge last year not to raise taxes , saying “the world has changed” due to a mixture of conflicts, US tariffs and higher borrowing costs.

Just as pretty well everybody has been saying from 5 mins after sge & Starmer made the pledge.

Whilst I'm sure she couldn't foresee some specifics, one thing anybody/everybody (except Reeves/Starmer) could foresee it that the world would change. Add that it was her "difficult [bad] choices" have made things somewhat worse for UK eg stifling growth with her employer NI increases whilst ignoring far more justifiable and non-growth stifling tax increases (eg banks, online gambling).

Yep, that was a ridiculous pledge, but to be slightly fair to her, the British electorate hasn't got a great record on rewarding honest politicians, especially ones who say they'll have to raise taxes.

Maybe my English language is limited (it is but) or maybe I'm missing something but to me Labour seem to be trying to walk on eggshells, pointing out Faragė's racist policies but carefully trying tot to accuse anybody of being racist. Maybe I'm too simplistic but to me if somebody supports racist policies sounds like being racist to me.

Who cares, they are racist and it is time to stop pretending and excusing their obvious racism.

But won't Starmer need at least some of the votes of the racists, if he is to have any chance of winning the next election ?

Labour seem to be making no efforts to win votes from Reform supporters; on the contrary, they seem to be doubling down efforts to offend them.

Here's Yvette Cooper, calling the Reform voters "Plastic Patriots" - if she (& Labour) were really clever, they'd be seeking to win over Reform voters, because if they don't, they'll stand a very good chance of losing the next election.

Anyone can bluster and throw insults at the other side; it takes a skilled politician, to actually persuade voters to change tack and win much-needed votes.

Maybe @briantrumpet can post the source for us. It seems very likely however that very few Reform voters are staunch left wingers.

That is very possibly true, but, Starmer (or, whoever is leader come the next election) needs to win over more than just the “staunch left wingers”, if they are to win.
