Starmer's vision quest

Not sure if it's that complicated.

Social media creates echo chambers.

People intrinsically wish to belong.

If you combine the two then you end up with people being drawn to tribes, and they will tend to be drawn to the tribes with simplest and most appealing messages (because most people are quite thick).

Once in a tribe you need not think independently again, just get fed the messages you want to hear by social media.

Agree, but social media has, arguably for the first time ever, allowed these echo chambers to be created and done with alarming speed. You could argue that no social media (backed by malign actors) then there is no Reform surge. UKIP was around for decades before Reform and they had nowhere near the same traction, they also had no billionaire backers and all encompassing social media algorithms.

A large part of it is media concocted without doubt. Same with Corbyn, Rayner etc. The right wing press and social media bots are very effective influencers.

You can guarantee that scab picking has been going on for the prospective replacements for Starmer. Ready to roll out once in power, not before. It all points to a wish for the government and by extension the country to fail.

There is no ‘Cool Britannia’ buzz, just rotting negativity for the parasites to thrive on.

Advisers under the bus; professional career Civil Servants following the rules, careers under the bus and now loads of hard working councillors losing their seats all so he who admits bad judgement and too many mistakes keeps his job.

"So the tactic of trying to appeal to Reform voters and telling white progressive voters to 'Fuck right off' went well, Mrs Mahmood?"

The sad truth could just be that despite Mahmoud's rhetoric too many people did not believe that Labour (or the established parties) would actually do anything about illegal immigration, whereas they believe that Reform would?

You have a touching belief in the lack of racism in "white progressive voters".

They were going to vote for Reform anyway, so why piss off your core support? In any case, it's turning into net UK emigration about now, so they could still keep racists happy, but without the glee of Mahmood's cruelty.

The Newcastle-upon-Tyne result is pretty wild too. I guess the posh parts voted for LDs or Greens.

Jesmond? Must admit almost total ignorance, but I did go to a wedding there in about 1984, and I seem to remember a poshies enclave in Jesmond. The only other thing I remember is it was bitterly cold, all the young women wearing next to nothing on their nights out, with bare midriffs, and me thinking that they'd catch their death of cold.

Both Jesmond and Gosforth have fancy bits, but I wouldn't call either of the whole area consistently affluent.

Darras Hall is probably the most affluent area, but that's mostly footballers so doesn't really count.

I'm curious as to what those voters think local councillors are going to do about immigration?

Is Ponteland Newcastle or Northumberland? My aunt lived in Darras Hall in the seventies, none of the neighbours were footballers then.
