It's sounding like it might well be over for Starmer - Streeting to announce a challenge tonight or tomorrow is the suggestion on Sky

I'd not pay much attention to them, TBH - they do like talking up the drama.

That said, I think Starmer's non-event today will be encouraging possible challengers to move sooner rather than later, as it's clear Starmer thinks he can get away with just more of the same, with the words in a different order (and the nonsense of 'being at the heart of Europre' whilst sticking to his red lines of staying out of the meaningful EU stuff that could boost trade). I'm not even going to call it fence-sitting, as most of the stuff he's done has been leftish, but then there's the screaming anti-immigrant stuff. It's like he's got his feet solidly on the ground either side of the fence, with a fencing stake up his arse. Maybe that's why his delivery is so stilted.

The current system would work if the regulators had a spine.
Set standards and if they are not met, suspend the remuneration of the board members and senior managers until those standards are met.
And no dividends allowed to be paid when the set standards are not met.

Agreed. There seems to be a collective pussy-footing from the various regulators, and when they do do something, it's a fine that the bill-payers (that's us) rather than the shareholders or directors end up paying.

Maybe a question of priority? What is more important Manchester Mayor party allegiance or getting a PM who can do the job for the entire UK.

Not that I think Burnham can do the job of PM, I don't know enough about him but clearly a fair few Labour MPs think he can so for them, having a "good" Labour Mayor vs having a "good" PM for the entire country.

Labour have been more than a bit crap, but they have made changes. Here's a couple to start you off.
1. Reduced NHS waiting times.
2. Ending no fault evictions for tenents.
And a bonus that will really start you off

Also a question as to whether or he feels he can succeed given the hole Starmer has dug the party/country into.

Like when Johnson was evicted, by then Conservatives had pretty well lost the next election whoever took over. So Truss then Sunak standing would have known they were facing a hopeless prospect and were only partial term leaders.

I suspect anybody taking over Labour would not be able to climb far enough out of the hole by next GE so would be maybe 2½ years before being replaced. Maybe Burnham thinks wait until after Labour lose next election take over then and get term in opposition then term as PM?

I hate to be in a country where it matters so much in comparison to actual policies, but the charisma void and cardboard presentation is one of the reasons Fagash and the Tit Whisperer are cutting through so effectively. It's not so much what they are saying as how they are saying it.

The over-riding consensus over on BR post BJ was that nobody with any sense would take the job.
I don't think labour are at the cut-off point yet but it is approaching.
