I can't work out whether he just doesn't understand politics/is completely inflexible/can't de-programme the doom loop (as you say), or is just a combination of all three. As with your post on Mahmood's policy, I really don't think he believes in this stuff, but his apparent refusal to now dissociate from it is baffling. He keeps getting opportunities to change tack but just can't seem to grasp the fact of what possibilities to improve his situation are in front of him.

Exactly this.

Not that I'm missing him in any way but surely this public demise of Starmer is MAGAndy's time to shine . . .

I did notice his absence, but didn't want to mention it in case doing so somehow invoked his return.

Right, I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Starmer's going to survive this one for at least a while, even if he deserves to go for not changing tack from the Mahmood/Blue Labour death spiral. I think Streeting is finding out how many people hate him, and Burnham is discovering that trying to parachute himself into someone else's 'safe' seat so he can topple Starmer isn't going down well.

The media will try to keep it going for the box office, but the Farage investigation will help it fizzle out.

Have to say, I completely agree with Charlotte Nichols and any other MP targeted in this. They won their seats fair and square and are sitting MP's, it's incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful to them. Burnham chose to run for Mayor, he should neither expect nor ask others to stand aside, if that is in his plans.

Not read about it but is it Burnham trying to oust sitting MPs or just a fantasy narrative concocted by clickbait hacks.
I don‘t really know much about him but from what I’ve seen he seems a pretty straight forward sort. I’m just a bit surprised that he is interested in returning to Westminster, as he seemed very aware of its shortcoming.

I think he expects to be treated like a saviour, having single-handedly saved Manchester from oblivion. Let's just overlook his previous fairly average parliamentary career nd failed leadership bid.

Like David Milliband, who I thought would have made a good leader, he flounced when he didn't get his way. That's not to say both should not be allowed to re-stand for election...but not by relying on another MP being persuaded to stand aside.

He ‘flounced‘ and became president of the IRC. I doubt he has any regrets on that front.

I may be cynical, and, it may all be media hype, but... I am beginning to wonder if part of Burnham's enthusiasm to return, is because there are nasties bubbling up in the "Manchester Miracle", and, he wants out before they become visible.
