Looks like we could be heading for an autumn of discontent, but it can't be blamed on Labour this time.

But I bet the Tories will try.
Be nice if Labour actually came eout in support of the strikes ?
You still of the opinion Unions aren't up to changing anything

The Tories have done all the heavy lifting already to start their downfall. The Unions may find it a good time to take advantage for their members, and at the same time add to the Tory woes, but won't by themselves change things.

I am not generally in favour of any political party coming out in favour of strikes over pay rates/terms.. None of them are immune from having strikes on their watch.

Fecking hell I can see why you favoured Starmer.

That’s quite… erm… striking. I would like politicians to support workers seeking to improve, or even maintain, pay and conditions. That doesn’t mean unthinking encouragement but I can’t think of many strikes in recent years that weren’t justified. Can you?

That's a big jump from me saying I believe they should not come out in favour of specific strikes over pay. There are many ways a government/political party can favour/support workers wrt to the economy, taxation, EO, legal rights, employment protection legislation etc. without getting involved in negotiations...other than when they are the employer.

"The workers" are a pretty amorphous group and each pay claim should stand on its own rights.

At this point I can't remember the details of previous strikes other than headline stuff so will not comment on the past.

I believe the firefighters' pay offer is a joke under current conditions and I would not blame them for striking. Similarly for the Railworkers and Royal Mail.

Controlling pay awards is not, on its own, going to drastically reduce inflation and workers should not bear the responsibility or the cost for doing that.

I am of the same mind. I would like politicians to be vocal in their agreement with us.

Another point of strong agreement.

Would it suprise you if I said I think
Labour MP's who refuse to back working people fighting against real hardship and cuts in pay during a cost of living crisis shouldn't be Labour MPs.

Knowing Starmer there's more chance of him coming out in support of the unionists.
