Horrid but very funny. I showed it to my wife, slightly nervous how she'd take it, and she laughed harder than I did.
It's fantastic, isn't it? I think there have been several similar occurrences, as the ability to play a musical instrument is extremely sensitively placed within the physical brain... I've got a vague memory of someone doing the same with a banjo - and there was one in the Michael Mosley series on the brain, where they were doing a similar operation for Parkinsons, and the hand tremor the man had before the op was completely gone afterwards... can't remember if he was playing a musical instrument though.
Different brain problem but there is also the footage of Tony Bennett recording with Lady Gaga. He was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2016 and managed to record the album with Gaga from 2018 to 2020. He had to be guided and helped a lot and could become lost or bewildered during the recording sessions, but as soon as he was singing it was like his brain shifted into a different mode.
Well worth reading Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks - basically uses people's residual musical ability to investigate various brain malfunctions.

Thanks Brian, I've ordered this from Abebooks.
