Symbolic good news even if it doesn’t go far enough.

In Scotland about 1,400 miners were arrested and more than 500 were convicted during the national dispute .
Under the new legislation, people convicted of breach of the peace, breach of bail conditions, or obstructing the police while taking part in strike action will be pardoned.
Miners will not need to apply for a pardon as it will apply automatically.
The pardon will also apply to miners who have died since the 1984-85 strike.
However, it will not affect their conviction or sentence and they will not be entitled to compensation.

UKIP were out in force this morning: a London taxi decorated in UKIP colours and slogans, blaring out random pop music, pootled up and down the town. A plump fellow with an enormous UKIP banner and a swollen bag of goodness-knows-what stood looking lonely in the crowded High Street.

I'm sure you can work out why this might be good news in the Honiton & Tiverton constituency.

I almost felt nostalgic reading that!

Back then when the rabid UKIP loons were all in the back of Wetherspoons plotting, and before the Tories stole their shtick.

Oh dear poor chap, did no one have the heart to tell him that we have already gloriously and magnificently brexitted, that everyone else is already enjoying the sunlit uplands, and that 'Brittania' Rules' once more..??

I mean Honiton and Tiverton are not well known for being at the cutting edge of progress, but still ... 🤔

Having run businesses in both places, I'd like to object...

...but, unfortunately, I think you're probably right.

Probs very unfair..

Although it doesn't seem that long since you could spot folks there, still wearing sno-washed jeans in an un-ironic fashion..

Meanwhile in other 'odd country' news..

Rather bizarrely I've just discovered that a quite good friend, of a friend is the person standing for the Tories..

She (my friend) is pretty baffled by it all tbh .

She one of the new-broom town councillors here. Harmless enough in that role. She's equivocated on supporting Johnson, but someone said she'd come out in support of Rwandan rendition.

Didn't she also say that she believed Jonson thought himself truthful.??

Meanwhile in rather better news .
