you got any links to the official deaths during construction work???

It's Qatar. Official deaths about 3.5.

This article will tell the story. There are others.

nothing official then.....just media analysis and they think they were working on world cup infrastructure, but cant be exactly truthful of the case.

Sheeeeeeeesh!

You cannot expect a corrupt, authoritarian dictatorship engaged in sportswashing to publish figures that show it in a bad light.

If the official figures are clearly designed to hide the truth then it takes investigative journalism to uncover it. Of course it is never going to be 100% accurate but it is not just one journalist from the Guardian making things up for a story. There are other versions if you are interested enough to find out.

What kind of weirdo goes on holiday to Dubai?

As @shep said, it's quite a popular holiday destination. I've been twice at Christmas - it's hot and sunny and we had some great holidays in Ras Al-Khaimah*. My in laws have been in the summer as well when it's very cheap for some reason... 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

*although not particularly my cup of tea as it's a bit hot, very sandy and not easy to explore local history...

LOL each to their own I guess. My idea of hell. Apologies for the insinuation that you might be a weirdo.

Yes, Officially no-one died, LGBT people are welcome and women have full equality with men and are really happy being driven around and wearing full length Abaya and covering their hair - it's totally their choice, as is walking 10 paces behind men and doing what they are told.

Unofficially there is data from other countries:-
https://www.theguardian.com/global-...grant-worker-deaths-qatar-fifa-world-cup-2022
Data from India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka revealed there were 5,927 deaths of migrant workers in the period 2011–2020. Separately, data from Pakistan’s embassy in Qatar reported a further 824 deaths of Pakistani workers, between 2010 and 2020.
While death records are not categorised by occupation or place of work, it is likely many workers who have died were employed on these World Cup infrastructure projects, says Nick McGeehan, a director at FairSquare Projects, an advocacy group specialising in labour rights in the Gulf. “A very significant proportion of the migrant workers who have died since 2011 were only in the country because Qatar won the right to host the World Cup,” he said.
Alternatively this is a good article:
https://www.dw.com/en/fact-check-how-many-people-have-died-for-the-qatar-world-cup/a-63763713
In conclusion, figures referring to fatalities in connection with the 2022 World Cup vary depending on definition, including of where migrant workers came from, where and when they died, and whether their deaths can be described as work-related or not. However, given the inconsistencies and shortcomings in Qatar's own official data, a concrete conclusion is impossible to ascertain, which in turn raises the question as to why exactly the Qatari authorities are unable to provide reliable information.
It suggests that whilst 6500 or 15000 may be over exaggerations, there is clear evidence that the Qatari government is interested in making sure those numbers are not actually counted or countable.

Personally it isn't a destination I would ever have chosen by myself, but for those that love sea, sand and sun it's a great destination. Interestingly the hotels deliberately cater for tourists, so cocktails are available and buffets have a "pork" station. Just never ever drive a rental car in Dubai. Seriously. If you do and you see a car coming at you from behind with horn blaring and lights flashing it's just an Emirati - get out of his way.

I also recall opening a heavy outside door and holding it open for a group of women approaching me. They stopped approaching and a male Emirati "graciously" moved in front of them and thanked me for opening the door for him. He did not hold it open for the women in turn but let it slam shut.

Nice people.
