Whilst possible he was a Republican, more likely he was one of the many worried about losing democracy.

....
So to protect democracy, its appropriate to attempt to execute a candidate standing in a democratic election.

Not sure I see how this stops losing democracy.

It seems to be the actions of someone trying to stop democracy.

Living in a democracy means accepting the result of a democratic election whether you like the outcome or not.

Accepting the outcome does not mean agreeing with the views or actions of the winner, but it does mean accepting who won.

Is that with the benefit of hindsight, or, not?

Clearly

If you had the opportunity to assassinate Hitler during the 1933 Federal election, would you take it?

There we go...a great example of the anti democratic views of some.

The shooting of a candidate in a democratic election can never be justified.

What on earth are you talking about?
I didn't say I would, I asked if you would.

Are you sure? That is far too simplistic. What if you knew a candidate intended to use democracy to end democracy?

I can tell you've never studied philosophy ;)
