Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
Under Biden / Harris
  • A genocide is being perpetrated in the Middle East
  • Innocent people are executed by the state
  • Unarmed black people are murdered by police
  • Mass shootings are an almost daily occurrence, school shootings remain prevalent
  • Women die from need of abortion, doctors are afraid to be criminalised for providing medical care
  • Carbon emissions remain high with catastrophic climate change already a reality
America is an ultra capitalist, violent, nationalistic society. Trump is not an outlier, you could say he's a logical endpoint. And he can commit crimes and pardon himself, pack the Supreme Court to interpret the constitution as he likes, issue executive orders. The office of the President of the USA is that of a dictator and they've always abused their power. Obama was regularly carrying out drone strikes in foreign countries. But he had a nice demeanor so we let him have a pass. Bill Clinton was out campaigning for Harris, attempting the mass slaughter of Palestinian children. They're war criminals, the lot of them.

Let's not pretend that the USA is this shining beacon of democracy somehow tainted by one man. It's a ruthless Imperial power which we have allowed to become too strong and influential because it suited us well in the latter half of the 20th century. The current state of affairs should come as a surprise to nobody.

Yeah, they're all as bad as each other. So by that logic Trump can't be any worse.
I think that's what you're saying.

Sorry Bill Clinton is attempting to justify the slaughter of Palestinian children. He already had the chance to do the slaughtering himself.

I think that's what you're saying.

Then you misunderstand what I mean by 'endpoint'.

But for Josseli Barnica, or Marcellus Williams, or a student at Uvalde, or Sonya Massey, or a Palestinian child, or a villager in South Lebanon, how could it possibly be worse?

Just a couple of questions. Who is ‘we’? Are you speaking on behalf of everyone in the UK, or is it you, is it me, is it our government? With any of those what could we, as a piddling little nation or insignificant individuals, have done in the past to stop the richest, most powerful nation in the world becoming too influential? Perhaps when we were in the very wealthy EU we could have had more impact on countering the influence of the US, but the EU seemed quite happy to rely on the might of the US.

I am extremely disappointed at this result, especially at this early stage, but tomorrow I shall go out for another ride on my bike, go to the dentist and then get on with my life as before.

I am calling it now. Although nasty things will continue to happen across the world…as they always have… it is not about to go up in flames. Or, in the unlikely situation that it does, it will not be due just to Trump.

What we've allowed (or rather history has unfolded to present) is a situation where we expect the US to police the world, and bankroll NATO and bankroll the UN. Then we expect the right to moan about them being too influential.

Sorry I should have phrased it better but I still bear the trauma from back in the noughties when that bloody paperclip was forever chastising me for using the passive voice.
