What amazes me is that amongst all Russian talk - whether it's at the top or amongst the propagandists or even the general public, is that there is no talk of "If we stop bombing and killing Ukrainians and withdraw our army from the occupied territories, this conflict might end the fuel shortages ...and the economic downward spiral ...and the number of deaths and wounded ...and the continued decimation of our oil infrastructure ...and the sanctions ..." [add to the list of what you will].

Incidentally, Jeffrey Goldberg and Anne Applebaum wrote this piece in the Atlantic in 2023. It seems like this is happening now.

It has been done before. Supposedly they offer great interest rates. Sadly by taking liquidity out of the economy like this is probably going to bugger it up. Cracking way to reduce inflation, but probably also a great way to completely destroy long term growth.

Pre-2022 invasion, romance frauds mostly came out of Ukraine. They could fleece the unwary incredible efficiently. Glad to see they are utilising their skills.

Not sure I’d want my cash seized without my consent, no matter what interest rate they are offering.
Surely you just end up with a run on the banks as everyone desperately tries to withdraw funds.

That's already happened to a degree when the govt. were proposing turning savings in excess of x amount into govt. bonds but when some official starts threatening taking all of the savings...
The black market for fuel will be cash based too.

'Fighter bomber' is a retired Russian military pilot who spends his time waxing lyrical about Putin and speaking in very colourful anti-Ukrainian language. He is followed by approx. 500k people online.
Fighter Bomber put out a post to Russians in Crimea saying that everything was under control and people were not to panic as fuel trucks had arrived. So the Ukrainians struck the fuel tankers.
...and he must be having some sort of mental breakdown because he just cannot help himself:

This woman is complaining about the train from Moscow to Crimea stopping in the middle of no where and there's no platform. She and her fellow passengers booked a holiday in Crimea. I'm not making this up.
If she even get's there, there's no fuel, no electricity, no internet and hardly any food.
