Met police found to have breached the rights of protestors who had organised the vigil for Sarah Everard.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60707646

The Met Police breached the rights of the organisers of a planned vigil for Sarah Everard, two judges have ruled.
The group had to cancel the event after the Met said it would be illegal to stage it under lockdown restrictions.
However, hundreds of people attended an unofficial gathering on Clapham Common in south London to pay their respects to Ms Everard, who was murdered by a serving Met officer, Wayne Couzens.
The vigil, on 13 March, saw clashes between police and some of those there.
At a two-day hearing at the High Court in January, Jessica Leigh, Anna Birley, Henna Shah and Jamie Klingler argued that decisions made by the force in advance of the planned vigil amounted to a breach of their right to freedom of speech and assembly.

Blimey! So they weren't 'asking for it' after all....

Sigh...

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...male-ukraine-refugees-with-single-men-uk-told

One 32-year-old woman from Bakhmut, Ukraine, who has been searching for an appropriate person to match in the UK, wrote that she had received suggestive messages from men on Facebook’s Messenger app. “I was approached by one older guy from London who said that I would have to share a bedroom with him, and was asked if I was OK with that,” she said in an email seen by the Guardian.

The Times reported this week that a journalist posing as a 22-year-old Ukrainian woman from Kyiv found that within minutes of posting a message on the largest Facebook group for UK hosts she was inundated with inappropriate messages.

Some men lied about having several bedrooms in their one-bed homes while another proposed sharing a bed, writing: “I have a large bed. We could sleep together.” Another sent a voice note that said: “I am ready to help you and maybe you can help me also.”

Lots of concerns about Ukrainian women and girls falling victim to trafficking for prostitution on arrival in Germany, where brothels are legal, and quite a bit on social media about women being approached and offered sex work.

I did see a comment from someone who worked at a charity saying there were a lot of approaches from the 'beds in sheds' landlords, looking to make a quick buck.

Meanwhile, Pornhub's top searches in February were:

It's a universal truth that no matter how much human misery there is, someone will seek to profit from it.

I was chatting with a much younger female friend about all this the other day.

It felt to us that some men are even a bit pleased with 'other men' being truly awful in various ways - so that their behaviour doesn't have to be all that great to seem a bit better in comparison...

Along the lines of "Well just count yourself lucky, you don't live in Afganistan, love " type attitude , if you should dare to complain about misogyny or sexism over here ...

Listening to the radio here in Ireland the Red Cross seem to be heavily involved with matching Ukrainians with vetted hosts. This seems eminently sensible....
