You obviously live a very sheltered work/social life compared to the one I live in then, the pisstake and wind ups are relentless.

No, but I understand context. There are things written on this forum which are mild in comparison with what I would say to my mates, but which if I said them at work would get me disciplined. There are things I would say in the pub which I wouldn't say to people on the internet who I don't really know.

Same here, but some folk don't seem to get this, or more likely they pretend not to , so they can say whatever they like in relative anonymity .

I don't actually believe that anyone here talks to everyone else in their lives in the same way as some do here..

I'm much less measured, with some people that I know, in particular contexts.

And at other times I mind my P's and Q's far more carefully, than I do here ..

Anyone who says that they do otherwise is either lying, or else they restrict themselves to a very limited field of company

Possibly a bit of both..

Maybe a new thread emerging here.

I hope and think I'm always respectful to the people I talk with, but am aware that I'll use a wider vocabulary face to face including the odd "feck" or other words that might offend tender souls here.

Can't be doing with " banter" - always seems like passive/aggressive nastiness; if someone wants to say something to me I'd rather they were direct.

Have I missed something? ;)

Me too, what have I missed? Haven't read this whole thread but just seems like the usual snarkiness to me.
It could be my interpretation, and I'm wary of White Knighting, but there was a post which read to me as quite extraordinarily misogynistic. But it's not just this thread, I've noticed a generally rather more antagonistic atmosphere across the forum lately and I'm aware that we are drinking in the last chance saloon, as it were.

Best to just ignore it all I think, the tactics are clear and any sort of attention, including this post, will be seen as a win.

You are probs one of the least obstreperous posters here, as far as I can make out, and seem only to post when you've got something to say..

Indeed we had some supposed 'banter' just now on another thread where a poster was implying I might have been visiting an East Midlands town to engage (unsuccessfully he imagined) in sex-work..

Another poster (rather predictably) found it hilarious ...

I mean come on..
Totes amusement, right ??

Funnily enough the very same poster who only yesterday had to be 'rescued' from my damn fool questions about the motives of labour voters, and those uninterested in politics.

All very hilarious 'banter' of course .

Just imagine their ire if such had been said about, or to one of 'their' women eh??

'White Knighting' is just another made up concept to keep all the 'chaps' pulling together on the side of 'the chaps' though isn't it??

Make sure none of the blokes breaks ranks, that they all stick together, and resist those 'annoying wimmin' right?

After all, one can't ever be seen to be supportive of a woman,, just because of a principal, it will always have an ulterior motive, I mean theres only one reason a guy ever sticks up for a woman amirite..??

[Insert any amount of winking emojiiis here ]

I used to have a pink square with

"Schrödingers Douchebag..
The guy who says offensive things - about women - and then only decides afterwards whether or not he's joking - depending on the reaction from others ."

Not sure where it went..

Anyway, there's more than a few that do that on here..

Keep to the facts please. I did not not have to be "rescued" as you put it, and, if I recall, I did make an effort to answer your questions meaningfully. My attempts may not have met with your standards or approval, but, I did try.

Pleased to see you still find my "laugh", "like" clicks so fascinating by the way.

I'm not sure, there's supporting women and then there's going out and being offended on their behalf, without considering the opinions of the women themselves. That's what I think White Knighting is, it's a form of shouting over women and not listening to their voices. It's no good me as a man telling other men how awful they are and how they need to modify their behaviour only for the woman in question to shrug her shoulders and say actually she's fine with it and there's no problem.

No of course you didn't have to be 'rescued' we agreed on that at the time, but another poster attempted to do so didn't they??

And you did answer my questions.

It was the other poster who seemed to think you needed help, and we had a good old chuckle over that didn't we

I don't find them 'fascinating' by any means .
But they're noticeable, and not just by me neither, others have remarked same..

You must expect to find yourself potentially 'misinterpreted if you 'approve' a post that could be seen as offensive to others .

FYI , If you're playing some kind of reverse implied dissaproval trick then it's not coming across very clearly..

You're just making yourself look like a bit of a d*ck..

Sure, that can happen, it has nuance like most things .

But I tend to find the guys who insinuate 'white knighting' are just trying to get a chap to shut up with his support for a.n. other female..

You have lost me a little now now. You referred to "banter", I questioned if I had missed it, because I had not noticed any "banter", although I didn't spell it out, all I had noticed were personal insults (not aimed at me) and (IMHO) an unacceptable level of foul language. So, I would agree with the bolded bit, beyond that, you will have to explain, because I done understand what you are talking about.

I am not..

Beyond that, I fail to understand why you referred to me in the first place.
