Oh Deere, oh Deere, oh Deere!

His wife has sent apparently sent him a John Deere letter.

Harder, harder…

I have a grudging respect for him in resigning at an early stage in the story, and for going on TV today to acknowledge his errors.

I wish more MPs would do the same when caught.

The interview showed no reflection or acknowledgement of the harm the porn industry causes, which is disappointing, but maybe that will come later.

I echo those thoughts.

He's not dodged it.

I think a full discussion of the rights and wrongs, the nuances and complications of pornography and the porn industry would take a lot longer than a short resignation statement would allow.

It would be interesting to have a proper discussion about it, especially considering that the DCMS is currently headed by a writer of erotic fiction, but I fear it's somewhat beyond the capabilities of either her or of the current administration in general.

Porn at work: definitely not.
Porn in general: it's complicated.

Only after five days of denial and obfuscation.

I imagine he was shoved, by his own party.
The evidence was incontrovertible.

Or did he in fact experience a damascene moment of thinking ..

"Oh yes, now I realise I behaved in a wholly inexcusable way, denigrating to all those around me, on work time"

We've sunk pretty low* in our expectations of standards of behaviour if we think this guy should be up for some 'Good Boy' rewards .

*Yes I know, in fact the country has done just that..

Settler of gobby hash.
Porn at work: definitely not.
Harsh for those who work in the porn industry.

I think he had his Damascus road moment. However it came about. His hands are up and he's gone which is right. I'm no tory apologist but in comparison to other tories.........

And this is how our standards slip .

"At least not as bad as the other, even more terrible lot"

I give him credit for resigning, albeit belatedly, but there was a time not so long ago when anything other than quitting immediately would have been considered absolutely untenable. Once we are at the point where people don't instantly quit as an MP when they are found guilty of a criminal offence or caught watching porn at work then it becomes near impossible to expect the public to have any confidence in their parliamentarians, or any respect for them.
