We seem to agree on most of this. We won't get anything like democracy until we sort out the second point and the last one.
I have no problem with immigration. A lot of people do. The left don't want to engage with the topic as it is toxic. One reason I think immigration is necessary is a skills shortage - a trade deal with India could be very good for the NHS, as was the Windrush generation. The other reason is climate change and the legacy of Western industrial nations, which needs reparations not only because of historical injustice and exploitation but also because the whole world must work in harmony to reduce industrial energy consumption. If we don't do this there will be a hell of a lot more migration sooner or later.
The 'lying bastards' issue is rife throughout parliamentary systems. They are all craven to corporate lobbies. Democracy, to deserve the name, needs truthfulness and accountability above all. We need to prioritise these above all, and talk about how at every level.
This is why I think just 'getting the Tories out', though tempting, is not an ethically forward-looking approach.
