This is a really good interview from someone pushing back against the anti-20mph zone stuff coming out from the Telegraph et al. It's pretty clear where the interviewer's sympathies lie, and it's a shame he feels it necessary to have his say after the interview, with no chance for the interviewee to counter - for instance, the "It's really weird to drive at 20mph" crap... it's only weird, because you've not done it enough, you twerp. It's not some instinct we're born with, one way or another, FFS.

It is weird at first, I am getting used to it though. The traffic flows better, cars are not bunched so it’s easier to get out of junctions. etc.

The most useful bit of my speed awareness course was the suggestion of sticking the car in 2nd gear for 20mph, 3rd gear for 30. It works, and makes 20mph feel not quite so slow, and the sound of the engine reminds you if you are tempted to speed up.

It's not great advice unless you have 4 or 5 forward gears. I have one car with 9 forward gears and another with 8.

I hope it has more than one reverse gear, with so many forward ones.

Not said entirely in jest, as from my days living along a country lane, reversing at 20mph is quite fun, but it doesn't sound like the engine enjoys it as much as me.

The vast majority of people don't even though it is becoming more commonplace on modern vehicles.

P.s. I just had to check on my 3 year old Karoq, as I must confess to never having used cruise control since I bought it new...it doesn't have adaptive.

I'm trying to find out how to stop my car telling me obvious things like when to turn my lights on, or to change gear, or to not touch the accelerator when not in gear or switching on the engine.

So I sometimes don't do everything perfectly...I can live with it, so should my car.

My car would not start recently (flat 12v battery). Instead of telling me the battery was flat, it told me that the braking system had failed, and that I should take it to my Main Dealer immediately.

These cars are not as clever as they think they are. 😊

There's a lot to be said for my 23yo Almera. A few warning lights, and that's it.
