Looking forward to red States such as Kentucky being sympathetic to the view that despite 20% of the State exports going to Canada, 'merica won't feel a thing. Or that their State's farmers are not going to be screwed over by USAid.
Yes Mitch McConnell, I hope you think of the choices you made, when meeting your constituents.

What stuff do you think the US can't do without, that would not absolutely crucify Canada by withholding said stuff
Where were the current batteries used by Tesla developed, and still hold the patent for it, and where are they assembled?
Also the raw materials used in the same batteries are mined in Canada.

Imagine, an electric vehicle manufacturer cannibalising it's cars for batteries, just to sell them.

In line with that reprieve, "Shares in Ford were up by more than 5% after the announcement, while General Motors shares rose more than 7%. Stellantis shares in the US rose more than 9%."

That's strange, i thought these tariffs would hardly affect the US?

Hardly a ringing endorsement of what's to come.

We (UK) have universal healthcare, it hasn’t killed off the drugs trade. why would you expect a different result in USA ?
Heroin, Cannabis and Cocaine are not available on the NHS. These are the backbone of the illegal drugs trade in the UK.
Fentanyl is heavily controlled but available on prescription from your GP. We don't have a huge illegal fentanyl problem in the UK.

Synthetic Opioids are heavily controlled and heavily punished:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/more-synthetic-opioids-banned-to-protect-communities

In the USA on the other hand medical providers were giving out Fentanyl like smarties creating a loyal legion of addicts who now need a fix, plus you could get prescriptions from multiple different GP surgeries unlike the UK.

This article sums up the differences in the Fentanyl problem between the USA and the UK:

Agree with all of this, but you can get cannabis on the NHS. It's very rare, but doable.

All the way up to the heart of government.
White House logs released during the Biden Administration, showed that Fentanyl was being prescribed by the White House doctor to patients under his care.

I should have added the logs refered to prescriptions issued under the previous administration.

An idea I've now heard from several independent commentators (eg BBC Newsnight, C4 News expert guests, etc.) is that Trumpty/Vance/Musk might actually not want what they are pushing for in they don't really want a strong Europe/EU capable of standing up for itself.

At the moment it's a good stick to beat us with, more because they just want to beat us rather than actually wanting a strong independent Europe.

Remember that Trump thinks (and has explicitly said) they the EU was created just to scrëw the US so why would he want it more independent and stronger?

What happened when UK/Europe stood up and said "yes, we'll supply the peacekeeping troops on the ground" - Vance started laying into how incapable out forces are and how depending on the US is the only answer.

I'm uncertain because they seems little except hate coming out of the US leadership at the moment but I do think the idea that Trump/Vance/Musk are just wanting to blame everybody else and criticise everybody else won't like the change they are instigating as a good possibility.
