What I was getting at was the concept of a loving God comes from the same source as the things many here disagree with.

The love of God and the wrath of God are present in both testaments. The irony is that the wrath of God in the NT is being revealed in a society that embraces LGBT. This is itself the judgement, a society abandoned. A breakdown in human relationships that extends to many of the things regularly complained about here such as #metoo or the ethics of the leave campaign and the govt it has sporned.

I have previously thought your messages were clear, even when I disagree, but that makes no sense to me at all.

Almost like everything I dislike is god's punishment, obviously.

Your know about food , how would you respond to a poster who repeatedly says animals are really plants every time the subject of food is brought up ?

I'd set out my stall. Explain why I think they are wrong. Counter their statements. Commit to making my own views known with reason, logic, evidence, you know, all that typical debating stuff.

I don't think this is a characterisation of Christianity that most Christians would recognise today. The whole thing about Jesus's teaching is that it stood in contrast to that of prevailing Judaism - there's no vengeful, wrathful God in the teaching of Jesus - which is why it was revolutionary for the time. The fact that the Churches have given priority to OT teaching on certain moral issues, or St Paul on others, is more a sign that institutions will cherry pick whatever makes it easier to control their adherents.

The God of the Gospels is a God of love; it's plain as day. If the Church had seen fit to stick to just the teaching in the Gospels the world would have been a far nicer place for the last 2,000 years.
